The shape of email in fashion
Fashion on Shopify is a browsing category. People look at a specific pair of boots, a specific bag, a specific size, leave, and come back to that item. That is why, in the five fashion and accessories stores in our 2026 benchmark, flows deliver 77% of email revenue, against 69% across all niches and 33% in beauty. The money is in catching the visitor who already chose something.
The numbers, medians across those five stores over 12 months:
| Metric | Fashion and accessories | All stores |
|---|---|---|
| Email share of store revenue | 21.6% (13% to 39%) | 22.4% |
| Share of email revenue from flows | 77% | 69% |
| Campaign click rate | 1.40% | 0.64% |
| Campaign revenue per recipient | $0.12 | $0.20 |
| Flow click rate | 3.82% | 2.34% |
| Flow revenue per recipient | $2.68 | $1.07 |
| Popup submit rate | 1.8% | 4.7% |
What to build first
- Browse abandonment that shows the item, its size and two alternatives. In fashion the alternative matters: the same boot in the other colour, the same bag one size down. A generic “you left something” email underperforms this by a wide margin.
- Abandoned checkout with the size and the return policy. The last objection in fashion is fit. The checkout flow answers it (free returns, size guide, a line about the fit) before it repeats the offer.
- Welcome without a discount, or with a small one tied to the first order. The popup will convert 1% to 2% without a code and 5% to 10% with one. The question is whether your brand can afford to train the list to wait for codes. Luxury and premium brands cannot; mid-market ones can test it.
- Post-purchase that sells the next piece. The matching belt, the bag that goes with the shoes, the care guide. Fashion has the best cross-sell logic of any category and most stores do not use it.
- Back in stock and low stock. In sizes, these two flows are among the highest-converting emails a fashion store can send, and they need almost no copy.
The pre-loved luxury case shows this at scale: 81% of email revenue from flows built per brand and per size class, no discounts, four-figure campaign order values.
What to send as campaigns
Fashion campaigns click at twice the median because the product is visual and the list wants to see it. They earn less per recipient than in other niches because a fashion purchase is occasional. Send them anyway, weekly, as a magazine:
- New arrivals, one story per send.
- Styling edits: one look, three pieces, one button.
- Restocks of the pieces people asked about.
- A seasonal offer once a month at most. In the accessories case, a year of discount-only sends took the click rate from 0.6% to 0.35%.
Send to the engaged 90-day segment with recent buyers suppressed. The whole-list send is where fashion lists go to die.
What a fashion brand should expect from a Klaviyo agency
- Flows built around size, colour and alternatives, not a template with your logo on it.
- A designer who can make an email look like your lookbook. Fashion email lives or dies on the photography and the whitespace.
- A send calendar tied to your drops and your inventory, not to a generic retail calendar.
- Reporting that splits flows from campaigns and shows revenue per recipient, so you can see the magazine working as a magazine and the flows as the engine.
Our Pro and Elite retainers include all of that with a written guarantee of +25% to +30% Klaviyo revenue in 60 to 120 days. The free 30-minute audit shows where your flows stand against the fashion numbers above.
